Children vote for favorite characters in Portugal
Children who went with their parents to vote for Portugal’s president on February 8. They could also join a special vote for children and choose their favorite characters.
At one place to vote in Lisbon, the children chose their favorite characters, such as Super Mario and Roblox, by writing the name on a piece of paper. Parents said this activity helped children learn how to vote and why voting is important.
The people in charge of the election said it was the first time Portugal had another vote like this for children, and they said it is not usual in other countries. Catarina Barbosa brought her 8-year-old son to the place to vote because she hopes he will vote in the future and be part of his community when he becomes 18. João Dias, who came with his two children, agreed and said children should start learning early about responsibility.
