Museum Says a Painting Is a Real Rembrandt
Rembrandt van Rijn was a very famous Dutch painter. One of his paintings is called “Vision of Zacharias in the Temple.” Zacharias is a priest in a Bible story. In the painting, he stands in the temple when an angel from God gives him a message that he and his wife will have a son named John the Baptist.
The painting was in a private home for many years. In 1961, art experts said it was not by Rembrandt, so people did not see it in a museum. The owner later asked a big art museum in the Netherlands, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, to look at it again.
Museum experts studied the wood and the colors and compared them with other paintings by Rembrandt. After two years, they said, “Yes, this is really by Rembrandt.” Now the painting is on show in the Rijksmuseum with many other works by the artist.
