White Sox to give pope hats at August game
The Chicago White Sox will give special pope-style hats to some fans at their game on August 11. The hats look like the pope’s hat and have the Chicago White Sox logo on them. Fans must buy tickets directly from the team to receive one.
Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope, is from Chicago and has been a longtime Chicago White Sox fan. He watched the 2005 World Series opening game from Section 140, Row 19, Seat 2, when the team won its first championship in many years.
The team put up a big picture of him near his old seat at Rate Field, the Chicago White Sox’s stadium.
Pope Leo once even wore a White Sox cap to show that he is a true White Sox fan. Recently, he smiled and gave a thumbs up when a fan said, “God bless the Chicago White Sox!”
