Salzburg celebrates Mozart’s 270th birthday with his mini statues
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a famous composer. He was born in Salzburg, a city in Austria. In 2026, the city is celebrating his 270th birthday and hoping more people will get interested in Mozart's music.
The Mozarteum Foundation, a group that supports his music, made hundreds of small gold-colored statues of him. It showed 300 of them on July 15, 2026. Each one is only about 50 centimeters tall. A German artist, Ottmar Hörl, designed them. He wanted to show that Mozart was a normal person, not just a genius. So Mozart's favorite dog was added to the statues. The dog's name was Pimperl. Mozart often walked with his dogs in the Mirabell Garden, a park near his home.
You can find the little statues in this garden, in Mozart's old house, and in other buildings. The statues will stay until August 30, 2026. People can also buy one for 100 euros.
