Neil Armstrong’s boyhood home is up for sale in Ohio
Neil Armstrong grew up in Wapakoneta, a small city in western Ohio. Later, he became an astronaut, and in 1969, he was the first person to walk on the moon.
As a boy, Neil loved airplanes very much. At home, he built small model planes with light wood and glue. He wanted to know the distance of each flight. So he sometimes threw the planes out of his bedroom window. At age 16, he first flew a plane alone and got his pilot's license.
Karen Mikesell, a retired history teacher, bought the house in 1988. She wanted to keep it like the Armstrong family had it. Many astronauts visited the house over the years.
In 2026, the house was for sale again after almost 40 years. Its future was not clear. Mikesell hoped for a new owner — someone to buy the house and give it to a local space museum.
