At these events, people dress up as characters from comic books or animated films. They perform in dance battles and try to win cheers from the crowd. "They are simply farming their aura," said Fernando Lícito, a content creator from Peru. He explained that the people do not touch each other or trade insults. The winner is the one who gets the audience to make the most noise.

Aura battles first started in Brazil and spread through social media. Now teenagers and adults hold them across Latin America, and the events have also reached Spain.

However, some officials have not welcomed the trend. In July 2026, a city in Brazil refused to give permits for an aura event. In Costa Rica, the education ministry banned the battles in public schools.

But others see the trend in a more positive way. A university professor in Colombia said that it has moved from the internet into real life. Because of this, teenagers now have a new way to socialize.
