Chihuahua helps save owner on glacier
A small Chihuahua is being called a “four-legged hero” after helping to rescue its owner. The dog’s owner was exploring the Fee Glacier in southern Switzerland on July 4 when he fell about 8 meters. He fell through a snow bridge into a crevasse and got stuck.
The man had a walkie-talkie and was able to contact someone nearby, who then called the emergency services. However, the rescuers didn’t know his exact location. After searching for about 30 minutes, an Air Zermatt helicopter crew spotted the man’s Chihuahua moving back and forth on top of a rock. When they moved closer, they saw the hole the man had fallen into. The rescuers went down using ropes, rescued the man and flew him and his dog to a hospital.
“Imagine if the dog wasn’t there,” said Air Zermatt spokesperson Bruno Kalbermatten. “I think he wouldn’t survive this fall into the crevasse.”
