A woman driving on a highway near the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina, U.S., had a shocking accident when a bald eagle dropped a cat onto her car. The cat hit the passenger side of her windshield and completely shattered it, but the driver was not hurt.

In her 911 call, she told the dispatcher what happened, saying she knew it sounded unbelievable. The dispatcher surprised her by calmly saying she believed the story and even laughed a little. Another witness also saw the cat fall and said it was the “craziest thing” he had ever seen.

Experts later explained that bald eagles often pick up dead animals, like roadkill, and sometimes drop them if they lose their grip, feel threatened, or the animal is too heavy. Bald eagles live across North America, and their population in North Carolina has been growing in recent years.
