Many dragonflies appear across California
In the summer of 2026, many dragonflies were flying around California. You could see them in parks, near ponds, and on farms. Dragonflies are common in summer, but in 2026 there were more than usual.
Peter Veilleux lives in Oakland, a city in California. One day, while walking his dog near his home, he spotted about 100 dragonflies flying together. He started to notice these big groups in July 2026.
"It's been amazing to see them," Veilleux said.
He wrote about the dragonflies on Facebook, a social media website. There, he asked if other people saw them too. Many people said that they also noticed the insects in different parts of California.
Kathy Biggs is a dragonfly expert. She said there were warm storms in late spring and early summer. That was probably why there were so many dragonflies.
