Romania sets a longest-table world record for a children’s psychiatric hospital
On September 12, 2026, about 20,000 people met in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. They sat at a very long table to break a world record and raise money. Organizers say the money will help build the country's first hospital for children with mental illness.
The table was 5,055 meters long. A Romanian group called Bloom The World Association organized the event. Guinness World Records gave the group a certificate for the longest table made from recycled materials. The table was decorated with flowers and snacks. Bloom The World set the previous record of 2,782 meters on September 12, 2025.
The money from the event will go to a new children's psychiatric center at Obregia Hospital in Bucharest. The project will cost about 16.5 million euros and is paid for by private donations and sponsorships.
Each year, the new center will help more than 5,700 children with serious mental illness. Romania's health minister has promised to give equipment and furniture, and the building should be finished by 2027. The Metropolis Foundation, which leads the project, explained that the current children's center is old and overcrowded.
"It is a project that started from a real need," the foundation stated on its website.
