Beijing opens store selling 100+ home robots
A new store in Beijing opened on Aug. 8, selling over 100 types of robots from more than 40 Chinese brands. Products include humanoid robots, robot pets, chess-playing machines, and life-sized models of Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton.
It is one of China’s first shops for consumer robots, showing the nation’s ambition to lead in AI and robotics. Store director Wang Yifan said selling robots is not enough, as companies must offer customized home solutions.
The store uses a “4S” model, offering sales, service, spare parts, and surveys. Prices range from 2,000 yuan (¥40,000) to several million yuan.
China hopes robotics can address challenges like an aging population and slow economic growth. Some robots can play soccer or Chinese chess. Others can work in cafes, sorting dishes.
