Pentagon releases UFO documents with unexplained sightings
The Pentagon released 72 documents on June 12, 2026, detailing reports of unidentified aerial phenomena, or UAP. The files described several UFOs but revealed no government cover-ups, and gave details about cases investigators could not explain.
One striking case happened in February 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Five soldiers at Fort Carson, a military base, spotted a hovering object above Cheyenne Mountain. An FBI report described it as potato-shaped and covered in shimmering, fish-like scales. It stayed motionless for about two minutes before vanishing instantly. Investigators suggested — with low confidence — that sunlight may have reflected off snow, but the soldiers insisted the sky was clear.
In October 2023, six law enforcement agents reported seeing a bright orange orb appear above a ridgeline and produce two to four smaller red orbs. In one case, an orb reportedly hovered in place for several hours. The Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, a government agency Congress set up in 2022 to investigate UAP reports, looked at several possible explanations. No clear answer was found and the office could not rule out "unrecognized technology."
A more recent FBI report described a person in the northeastern United States who returned home to find an intense red sphere hovering in their backyard, with a glowing center. A second sphere appeared, and both flew silently away.
The newest files also include a 2008 CIA report from Zimbabwe describing a disc-shaped object with rotating lights above the country's main airport. The lights changed colors, and beams were observed coming from the object before it climbed out of view.
