Simple ways to stay cool in hot weather
Hot weather can be dangerous for the body. Anyone can suffer from a health problem because of the heat. Ashley Ward is a director at a health research center in the U.S. She said the body especially needs cooler air at night to rest. When nights stay hot, people feel worse the next day.
Air conditioning helps, but not everyone has it. Ward said people without air conditioning can make a "cool corner" in one room and sleep there. In dry places, a special cooling machine called a swamp cooler can help people stay cool. In wet places, it is better to use a fan.
People can also go to cool public places, such as movie theaters, malls, or libraries. Some cities open cooling centers for hot days. In some places, there is a government program for people who do not have much money. It helps them pay for an air conditioner.
