Dogs ride the waves at a surfing contest in California
On August 1, 2026, many dogs went surfing in the ocean at Pacifica, California. The town is near San Francisco. Hundreds of people came to watch. They cheered as the dogs rode the waves.
The event was called the World Dog Surfing Championships. This was its tenth year. Small dogs and big dogs joined the contest. Each dog wore a colorful life vest and stood on a surfboard. People helped the dogs find good waves. The judges checked three things: the time on the board, the size of the wave, and the dog's confidence.
The day also helped animals. People could adopt a pet there, and the contest raised money for local animal groups.
Sophia Sadlowski wanted to take fun photos of her dog, Rusty. So she put him on a surfboard when he was a puppy. But Rusty did not want to get off. At Rusty's first contest, he won third place.
