Japan wins the Women’s Asian Cup final against Australia
Maika Hamano scored a great goal to help Japan win the Women’s Asian Cup final. Japan beat Australia 1–0 on March 21 in Sydney. Hamano, who plays for Tottenham on loan from Chelsea, got the ball and made a strong shot in the 17th minute. The ball went into the net, and many Australian fans became quiet.
Australia tried hard to score in the last 10 minutes. Alanna Kennedy had a good chance, but Japan’s defense stopped her. Japan’s coach Nils Nielsen said he was very proud. “The girls worked very hard. We won all six games,” he said.
Sam Kerr, the captain of Australia, said Japan won just from one moment. Japan scored 29 goals in the tournament and only gave up one goal. About 75,000 people watched the game at Stadium Australia. Six teams, including Japan and Australia, will play in the Women’s World Cup in Brazil next year.
