A Benin clothing brand promotes “Made in Benin”
Fatoumata Dosso runs a fashion business in Benin, a country in West Africa. She puts "Made in Benin" tags on her fabrics. The country grows a lot of cotton. She wants to use this cotton to make clothing there.
"What comes from elsewhere is already everywhere," she said. "I wanted to do something special."
Dosso started her business, DAF Collection, in 2016. Before that, she worked for a town mayor. She also wants to help women who hope to earn money from cotton. These days she presents her clothes at fashion shows in other countries.
About 12 women work for Dosso as weavers. One of them, Chabi Baké, is a mother of five children. She earns about $545 a month. With this money, she is building a house for her family. For Baké, making clothes in Benin is a good thing.
