Kansas City businesses prepare for the 2026 World Cup
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is coming to Kansas City, Missouri, and local businesses are getting ready to welcome fans. The tournament begins on June 16, and city organizers expect more than 600,000 visitors.
Several small businesses are preparing products inspired by the teams that will stay in the Kansas City area: Argentina, Algeria, England, and the Netherlands.
Betty Rae's Ice Cream, a local shop, has developed flavors for these countries. For Argentine fans, the shop is offering an ice cream based on alfajores, a traditional Argentine biscuit with a sweet caramel filling. For Algerian fans, the shop has created a honey ice cream inspired by baklava, a sweet pastry made with honey and nuts. The dairy company Shatto Milk Co. has also created nine special products for national teams. For example, it offers a chai latte flavor for England and a butter pecan flavor for the Netherlands.
Local clothing companies like Sandlot Goods and Three KC are selling shirts with World Cup designs. Three KC owner Brendan Curran, who works as a math teacher, started selling his designs online and now supplies local stores with his products.
Betty Rae's owner said that anything that brings attention to Kansas City is exciting for local businesses. Many shop owners hope the World Cup will bring economic benefits and new friendships.
