Nissan and Honda to jointly develop car computer technology
Nissan and Honda, two big Japanese carmakers, said on Aug. 31, 2026, that they would work together. The two companies will develop and share common computer parts and software for future cars. These computer parts control how a car works. The new technology will appear in cars that go on sale in fiscal 2029.
Nissan is based in Yokohama, a port city. Honda's main office is in Tokyo. The two companies started talking about working together in 2024. They wanted to develop electric cars and smart car technology together.
Today, cars use more computers and software than before. Sharing parts and research would help Nissan and Honda save money and develop new cars faster. Toyota is the biggest carmaker in Japan. Working together might help Nissan and Honda compete better with the industry leader. The companies said they needed to work more quickly and use their money better to stay competitive.
