Thousands throw tomatoes at Spain’s La Tomatina food fight
On August 26, 2026, thousands of people came to Buñol, a small town in Spain. They came for La Tomatina, a big tomato fight. It happens every year on the last Wednesday of August.
Big trucks drove slowly through the crowd. People on the trucks threw tomatoes at everyone below. The people on the ground kept throwing them at each other. Soon, all the white shirts turned pink and red, and pop music played loudly. The fight went on for more than an hour.
There was only one rule: squash your tomatoes first to avoid hurting anyone. Many people wore swimming goggles and earplugs to stay safe.
A loud sound told everyone the fight was over. People took showers nearby. Later, the streets were washed with water. The acid in the tomatoes even helped, so the streets often looked cleaner than before.
